SYDNEY: News Digital Media's news.com.au has grown by over 80% in unique browsers and page impressions over the past 12 months, topping three million monthly unique browsers for the first time and overtaking Fairfax Digital's theage.com.au.
News Digital Media now publishes six of the top 10 sites in the news & weather category of Nielsen Online's Market Intelligence, with news.com.au the third most visited news & weather website in November.
In November, news.com.au attracted 251,162 average daily unique browsers, just ahead of The Age with 249,109 average daily unique browsers over the same period, according to Nielsen Online's Market Intelligence. Comparing monthly unique browsers, news.com.au beat The Age by over 200,000 unique browsers in November, with 3.1 million versus 2.9 million for The Age.
But news.com.au is still lagging well behind Fairfax Digital's star news & weather property, smh.com.au, which had 382,584 average daily unique browsers and 4.2 million monthly unique browsers over the same period.
A spokesperson for News Digital Media said the launch of new vertical sections including Money and Technology partially explained news.com.au's strong growth in recent months, as well the success of its Vote-a-Matic election predictor during the recent federal election.
News Digital Media's employee numbers have grown from 194 in June 2006 to over 500 today, with the number of sales staff doubling over the past 12 months.
