Fairfax launches daily

SYDNEY: Fairfax will improve its reach over the 300,000 people living in the Gosford and Wyong shires with the launch of its daily Central Coast Herald tomorrow (28 September). ÒDaily newspaper sales on the Central Coast are about half the national average through the lack of a local, daily newspaper,Ó said Alan Oakley, publisher & editor-in-chief of Central Coast Herald. He said the title will fill a void identified by the Central Coast Research Foundation that found 80% of people on the Coast believed it was important the region had its own local daily. He believes the title will grow the market through its local content without cannibalising sales of Sydney dailies, and could increase readership of other titles such as the Sun-Herald. The paper will be carry a $1 cover price Monday to Friday and $1.50 on Saturday. Its first issue will include real estate and motoring liftouts, a colour magazine, Weekender, and the largest classifieds marketplace in the Central Coast and Hunter Valley. Brian Evans, general manager of Fairfax Regional & Community Newspapers, said the title will Òserve readers and advertisers much more effectively by introducing six-day frequency into a marketplace familiar only with free weekly papersÓ. Derek Taylor has been appointed manager of the title, in addition to his responsibilities for the Central Coast Sun Weekly. Richard Cann
