MELBOURNE: Kath & Kim’s debut on Seven Network raked in a whopping 2.5 million viewers last night, plus 647,000 regional viewers who tuned in on Prime.
Kath & Kim is now this year’s most-watched launch episode for any new series, stealing the title from Desperate Housewives, which also airs on Seven Network.
It’s a big loss for Aunty (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), which had screened Kath & Kim since the program’s launch until Seven poached the show this year. Kath & Kim’s record audience on the ABC was 2.09 million. This makes the victory even sweeter for Seven Network, which will continue to attract major advertisers during the Kath & Kim timeslot.
In other ratings results, Nine Network only just scaped into the top 10 list of programs in last week’s survey (week 33), which was dominated by programs from Seven Network (Medical Emergency, RSPCA Animal Rescue) and Network Ten (House, Thank God You’re Here, Australian Idol). Nine made the cut with National Nine News and Backyard Blitz in ninth and tenth spot.
