Sascha Odisho.

In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Alliance Outdoor account manager Sascha Odisho.

Time in current role/time at the company?

I started at Alliance Outdoor in December 2024 as an Account Executive and was recently promoted to Account Manager at the start of this year, which makes it 2 years in December.

How long have you been in the industry?

I've been in Outdoor media industry for three years now. I started my media career at QMS in 2023, however I took a 6 month break and decided to adventure into Strata Insurance... Turns out policies and premiums aren't as thrilling as billboards and found myself running right back to media!

How did you get here?

Like a large majority of people in media, I did not expect to be here at all! I had my eyes set on becoming a physio and spent three years at university completing my Health Science degree. While I was impatiently waiting to commence my physio course, I somehow fell into media!

Was this always the plan?

As mentioned above, definitely not the plan  - if you asked me 5 years ago, I would have thought I'd be deep into sports physiotherapy. While I always took notice of advertisements and particularly, OOH ads, I never quite understood the process and background to how those advertisers end up on them.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

There are so many incredible people who have and do help and guide me each and every day. However, I am lucky enough to report into Harriet Newton as my GSM, and Mollie Clyma as our NSW Sales Director. They’re absolute weapons in the OOH space and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. I'm constantly learning from them, whether it's bouncing ideas around or navigating potential barriers, they are always there to challenge me and help me grow in this space. Oh, and special shoutout to Jenny O’Connor who I’ve grown alongside and has become my right-hand gal!!

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

Seeing your work in real time never gets old . The hard work you put into building the client relationship and negotiating the deal always makes seeing your client up in lights even more special and rewarding. Additionally, there are so many factors to putting a media schedule together to ensure you are delivering the best outcomes for your client. I also have to shout out the amazing team I get to work with at Alliance Outdoor & the agencies I rep, if it weren’t for them, my passion for the work I do wouldn't be as strong.

And the biggest challenge?

OOH and it’s performance is directly impacted by what’s going on in the world, and over the past few years, that’s been a key challenge. For example, with rising interest rates and ongoing fuel costs across Australia, more brands are tightening their budgets, sometimes shifting their marketing spend to short-term performance channels. It's our roles are OOH specialists to continue to educate the market on the value of our channel, demonstrating how it drives both brand impact, builds reach, and complements a multi-format buy.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I'm coming for yours, Harriet! Whilst I'm only half kidding, I want to keep progressing in my career in OOH, leading me to a GSM or GBD role where one day I'll be able to pass on my learnings to develop and grow the future generation. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by incredibly successful and driven people, which is always good motivation and keeps the bar high.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from the OOH space itself. Seeing how brands show up in bold and creative ways, and specifically how the channel evolves, meaning we as salespeople also have to evolve and adapt to the market. Outside of that, friends and family play a big part in that, and the fact that I'm a chronically online person, taking inspo from Instagram and TikTok helps too.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I tend to overshare A LOT! So, in saying that, there is really nothing that my whole office doesn’t know about me.

In five years' time I'll be:

In five years, I see myself in a leadership role within the OOH space, hopefully leading an even bigger Agency team here at Alliance Outdoor. We'll be hitting targets and having a lot of fun doing so!
