Sam Harrington.
In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Town Square's senior account manager Sam Harrington.
Time in current role/time at the company:
1 year, 9 months at Town Square.
How long have you been in the industry?
5 years.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
I got here by finishing a music degree, enrolling in something else entirely and then finding the advertising electives the best bit, and transferring my major across to suit. So no, this was not always a part of the plan!
Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day?
I have a large devils ivy that sits to the right of my desk, and I find it’s insight most helpful, but my colleagues in the account service team on my left do a damn good job as well.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
Our head of strategy said it best: “There are so many boring jobs out there that you can go and work in, the beauty of this one is that you actually get to have fun as well.”
And the biggest challenge?
Keeping all the plates spinning, you always have to keep the plates spinning.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
YouTuber, educator, author, outdoorsman and all round legend, Beau Miles.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Usually history. It’ll tell you how you got here, and that’ll help you work out what your options are for the next thing.
My favourite advert is (and why):
The Come Down For Air work for Tassie, by BMF. It has nailed the heck out of exactly what it is about my native state that makes you want to go and visit.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I was extremely messy as a child. If any of my colleagues knew that, knowing my point-blank refusal now to have superfluous items on my desk or in my downloads folder, I think they’d be shocked.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Successfully transitioned from Blundstones to RM Williams, perhaps with a nice devils ivy on both sides, and a few more Young Guns sitting in front of me.
