Liam Pavolvski.

In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Magic engagement executive Liam Pavolvski.

Time at the company:

Two years.

How long have you been in the industry?

Magic was my first job in media, so I have been working in the industry for a couple of years now.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I studied finance and marketing at uni, so I was looking for a role that combined both analytical thinking and creativity. That’s how I ended up in paid media.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

I’ve enjoyed working at a smaller agency like Magic. It’s given me the chance to get stuck into a mix of industries and challenges early on. One of the best parts has been having a team that backs my curiosity and points me in the right direction when I’m exploring something new. That kind of support isn’t always easy to find.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

What I like about marketing is how it brings together different ways of thinking. You’re always switching between creative and analytical modes, and the best ideas usually come from finding the balance between the two. It keeps things interesting and makes you think differently depending on the problem.

I also like that no two days are the same. Every brief is its own challenge, and you get to be part of the whole process, from shaping the strategy to seeing the outcome out in the real world. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that.

And the biggest challenge?

Developing creative that speaks to users and cuts through the overwhelming barrage of messaging that’s out there, all while keeping platform AI happy.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Not sure, five years is a long time and with the rate of AI development I might not have a job by then!

Where do you turn for inspiration?

I usually bounce ideas around with other operators I follow on Twitter and LinkedIn, plus I rely on ChatGPT as a sounding board to help me turn my initial, sometimes messy thoughts into something clearer.

My favourite advert is:

Super Bowl LVIII Commercial: CeraVe Skincare - Michael CeraVe (2024).

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

Not sure if there is anything left to share at this point.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future

Hard to say with how fast the industry is changing. But I’d be happy in a role that keeps me solving problems, learning new things, and working with great people.
