Jo Chubb, assistant brand manager, Big Red Group

Time in current role/ time at the company:

I’ve been at Big Red Group for one and a half years.

How long have you been in the industry?

I've been in the marketing world for just under three years, where every day is a new adventure as I develop campaigns that build lasting connections with our audience.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I have always enjoyed being creative and building meaningful connections with people. So, I jumped at the opportunity to study a Bachelor of Communications, majoring in PR and social media. After a year and a half in the marketing world of finance, I wanted to challenge myself and test my skills in a completely new industry. And that's how I found myself at Big Red Group.

Little did I know, my face would end up on the side of a bus as part of our OOH Christmas campaign!

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

I'm so grateful that I'm surrounded by an amazing team at Big Red Group who always have my back. My leader, Toni Westlake, encourages me to think big and be my authentic self, while my partner in crime Karina Robson helps me deliver impactful brand campaigns and engage our community.

What's the best thing about the industry you work in?

Hands down, the people! I love the passion and enthusiasm from everyone across the industry. From our incredible experience suppliers to our partners, and broader Big Red Group network. Plus, I love the opportunity to try all the amazing experiences Big Red Group offers (skydiving being my favourite).

And the biggest challenge?

The speed of the industry but it’s also what excites me. I love learning about new creative innovations hitting the market such as AI and 3D animation.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I have my sights set on continuing to grow the Adrenaline brand and eventually becoming a brand manager.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Everywhere! For me, it's on my daily walks as I listen to podcasts. Looking at billboards as I’m driving to the beach.

Conversations with friends at the pub. Analysing transit placements on my bus ride home. Dissecting YouTube Ads after watching makeup tutorials. Tuning into the radio, purely for the ads. I constantly find myself consuming what other brands are doing and considering how it can resonate with our audience.

My favourite advert is?

Pringle's collaboration with Twitch. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

It’s a great example of two brands coming together to engage their audience in a unique and authentic way based on one interesting insight. Plus, who doesn’t love pringles?

Tell us one thing people at work don't know about you?

Nothing. They would say they know too much! Just ask my boss who sits next to me at work.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I'm always up for a new challenge, so joining a start-up is definitely on my bucket list. But more than anything, I want to keep learning, growing, and delivering creative work with amazing people. Building lasting relationships between my brand and customers will always be my top priority.
