In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Wavemaker's implementation & activation executive Georgianna Gibson.

Time in Current Role / Time at the Company:

I've been in my current role for 1 year and 5 months, a valuable period of growth. I've gained experience across diverse clients and projects, continually learning about the ever-evolving media landscape.

How Long Have You Been in the Industry?

I've been in the media industry for 1 year and 5 months. Prior to that, I gained some part-time experience at Rumble Strategic Creative during my studies at The University of Queensland.

How Did You Get Here?

Media, marketing, and communication have always captivated me. At university, I joined Australia's first student-run communication agency, eventually becoming Managing Director. This gave me early exposure to real clients and mentors from global agencies like WPP, solidifying my passion and setting my current career path.

Was This Always the Plan?

Not a rigid plan, but it always felt right. I knew I wanted a creative, fast-moving environment where I could connect with people and ideas. My journey naturally unfolded through opportunities aligning with that core passion.

Who Is Your Right-Hand Person / Who Guides You Day to Day?

My manager, Louis, is an incredible mentor. He guides me through challenges, offers valuable perspective, and actively supports my professional development.

What’s the Best Thing About the Industry You Work In?

The media industry's dynamic and collaborative nature is its greatest asset. It's constantly reshaped by technology, creativity, and culture, ensuring there's always something new to learn and explore.

What’s the Biggest Challenge?

The rapid pace of change is undoubtedly the biggest challenge. The media landscape shifts so quickly, demanding constant adaptability and openness to new ideas. Yet, this is what keeps it exciting, fostering continuous growth.

Whose Job Have You Set Your Sights on in the Future?

I’m inspired by people who lead with creativity and strategy. Those who shape brand stories that Truly resonate. In the future, I’d love to move into a role like that, leading work for a major global brand perhaps in the luxury or sports marketing space. I want to help craft stories that truly have an impact. Having been Managing Director on a smaller scale at Newish during university, I feel a huge respect towards those in the industry that set a strong example in these roles, Susan Lyons does this especially well and I would love the opportunity to grow my skillset to fulfill this type of position in future.

Where Do You Turn for Inspiration?

I draw inspiration from the people and places that have shaped me – mentors, challenges that push me beyond my comfort zone, and those who excel in their craft. I'm inspired by passion and dedication in any field, and by how genuine love for one's work can create something extraordinary.

Tell Us One Thing People at Work Don’t Know About You:

My experiences moving countries have instilled a deep resilience and growth mindset. Embracing challenges and stepping out of my comfort zone is core to my values. I believe in the long-term rewards of perseverance, much like planting a tree without expecting to see its shade. This perspective shapes both my personal and professional life, always striving for meaningful growth.

In Five Years’, Time I’ll Be:

In five years, I see myself leading impactful campaigns and projects that blend creativity, strategic direction, and innovation. I’m passionate about working with big brands and making meaningful connections with people. While I know that opportunities will evolve in unexpected ways, I’m committed to continuous learning, mentoring others, and nurturing growth. Ultimately, I believe that this blend of discipline, adaptability, and passion will guide me to the right space and help me make a lasting impact.
