Jesse Hunter

Our Young Guns profile takes a weekly look at some of the young talent across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Previously we met Zenith digital account manager Claire Sheely, today we speak to Exponential sales manager Jesse Hunter.

Time in current role/time at the company:

Six months.

How long have you been in the industry?

Two and a half years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I actually got my first role in media after having a skype interview with a media agency in Melbourne while working on a farm in New Zealand. I always knew I wanted to move to Melbourne and enjoyed marketing. So to say was this always the plan, sort of..

Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day?

Steffen Crouwel – commercial director of APAC at Exponential.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

Being in digital media, the landscape and ability to do new things in the advertising space is constantly changing and updating. So I would say being at the forefront of digital advertising innovation and keeping up with the latest trends in market.

And the biggest challenge?

Probably keeping up with the latest trends in market.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I don’t think the job exists yet.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Will Harms – a super smart and talented guy who was luckily my first mentor when I got into the media industry. He has always been good for advice and a serious inspiration!

My favourite advert is (and why):

Probably would have to be Ghost Chips. This ad went viral in NZ in 2011. It uses humour to tackle a serious issue and uses positive reinforcement to promote anti drink driving. “Just crash here.”

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I have opened for some of the biggest names in the DJ world.

In five years' time I'll be:

Thirty… working with interesting people on innovative projects.
