In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Connected Media's account director Chloe Jovanoska.
Time in current role/time at the company:
Coming up to 5 years at Connected and 9 months in current role.
How long have you been in the industry?
7 Years.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Not at all. I started in ad ops, deep in the backend and the technical side of media. Moving into a digital performance role at Connected sharpened those skills, but I was always drawn to bigger-picture thinking. By showing interest, leaning in, and with the support I’ve been given along the way, I’ve grown into an account director role that lets me blend strategy, creativity and performance. Truly the best of both worlds.
Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day?
It really depends on the kind of support I need. For making sense of my word vomit and guiding me day-to-day, I lean on Todd Leussink (senior account director). Taylor Hadlow (senior paid media manager) balances my type B creativity with her type A organisation. And for higher-level strategy and big decisions, my CEO Laura Hamod Barnes gives me the guidance and confidence to actually make them happen.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The diversity. No two clients, brands or briefs are ever the same, so you’re constantly flexing your thinking and adapting your approach. It keeps the work fresh, creative, and pushes you to think differently every day.
And the biggest challenge?
The pace! The industry moves fast and if you don’t keep up, you get left behind. It’s chaotic most of the time, but I live by ‘diamonds are made under pressure’ and honestly, that’s where I do my best work.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
I don’t have a specific job title in mind, just a level of impact. I’m really happy where I am, love the team, and if it challenges me and scares me a little, I’m ready to tackle it right here.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Depends what kind of inspiration I need. Usually, I just type the topic into TikTok and let my FYP cook. If it’s inspiration for getting a good workout in, I’ll make sure to book an F45 class with Christie Wade (our COO) so she yells at me if I stop to breathe.
My favourite advert is (and why):
The Rhonda and Ketut AAMI campaign because it never felt like an insurance ad, it felt like a rom-com series we were all emotionally invested in. It took the most boring category and turned it into something funny, dramatic and genuinely entertaining. If people are waiting for the next episode of an insurance ad, you know the creative is elite. Chef’s kiss.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I’m an open book and love a good yap, so there’s probably not much mystery left. However, outside of office life you’ll probably find me baking or drawing! I make all the cakes for my friend’s life events.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Honestly, I don’t have a five-year plan. I love what I’m doing now and I’ve learned that the best opportunities come from staying curious and open. Wherever the road takes me, as long as I’m growing, challenged, and excited about what I do, I’m exactly where I need to be.
