In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's M+C Saatchi Group senior social & content manager, Chloe Andrews.
Time in current role:
Freshly promoted! I’ve just stepped into my new role after two years as Marketing Executive, very stoked!
How long have you been in the industry?
Coming up to four years now - which in agency years feels like… fifteen?
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Not even close. I started out in the public sector before realising my creative brain was quietly screaming for attention. One day I spotted an Office Manager role at M+C Saatchi Group and thought, “Stuff it, let’s go.” I had zero ad-land experience, no degree, no fancy portfolio - just a gut feeling and a lot of enthusiasm. That job cracked the door open, and I’ve been nudging my way in further ever since.
Who’s your right-hand person?
If you asked anyone at M+C, they’d probably say Xavier Lynch - and they’d be right. Xavs is my creative P.I.C. We’ve hosted events, cooked up TikToks that somehow went viral, and kept each other sane through the chaos. He’s the definition of good vibes and big ideas.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The freedom to be unapologetically yourself. I love that this industry celebrates individuality - there’s room for the weirdos, the dreamers, the ones who say “okayyy hear me out…” and actually get heard. It’s never boring, and that’s kind of the magic.
And the biggest challenge?
Trying not to let impostor syndrome turn up the volume. It’s easy to feel like the smallest voice in a big room, but the trick is to remember, they hired you for a reason. Your opinion does matter. Back yourself, even when the head noise gets loud. I’m lucky to be surrounded by people at M+C who back me to do just that - to speak up, evolve, and grow.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
Honestly? No one’s. I don’t look at someone else’s role and think “that’s the goal.” I want to carve out my own lane, something that doesn’t even exist yet. The dream is to look around one day and think, “Wow… I’ve helped to create something really special.”
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Scrolls of chaotic brilliance on TikTok, long chats with my creative mates, random overheard convos on the 1 and a half hour commute home - anything with a spark of humanity and humour. Real life is the best brief.
My favourite advert is:
“Yes I Didi.” I first saw the unbranded footage pop up on my FYP - Nudgy perched on a bar in Sydney, pure chaos. It’s the perfect combo of unhinged, funny, and totally bonkers. I watched it three times and thought, “Yep. This is what happens when creative freedom meets zero fear.”
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:
I used to tell people Steve Irwin was my real dad - a top-secret national treasure situation. When he died, I was so genuinely distraught that I had to take days off school. I cut out every single newspaper article I could find, and made a full-blown shrine in my room. That didn’t come down for about a year or longer. Honestly, I'm still a bit triggered when someone says “Crikey.”
In five years’ time I will be:
In five years, who knows? As long as I’m still having a laugh, growing a bit, and being the best version of myself - I’m sweet.
