Young Guns: Ashley Bathurst at Acast ANZ

By AdNews | 28 August 2025

In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Acast ANZ sales planner Ashley Bathurst.

Time in current role/time at the company:

Five months

How long have you been in the industry?

This is my fourth year in media.

How did you get here?

Through a connection! A friend of my aunty reached out in 2021 because they needed a new Implementation Executive at Nova. I thought I’d give it a shot but had no idea what I was getting myself into whatsoever! That being said, I had a great two and a half years there. I had last summer off from full-time work, then actually missed being around the media world.

One thing led to another and I've now joined Acast as a Sales Planner in Melbourne. I’ve always been so interested in the world of podcasting, especially hosts and their stories. Working so closely with successful and well-known podcasters - the reality superstars from Giggly Squad, Lu & Jarch from We Mean WellToni & Ryan, the team from Casefile - is all really fascinating.

Was this always the plan?

No it wasn’t, but then again I didn’t really have a plan. I studied Business and Marketing at RMIT university, as I didn’t really know where to go post-school. I kind of bounced around a few part-time and casual jobs until I landed this full-time role that I really enjoy.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

Dream Team of three here in Acast's Melbourne office: Ally Marchetti, Group Business Director, and Liam Findlay, Account Manager.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

Working with such a large and diverse group of clients and team members. I enjoy the social element of it, building my current relationships and meeting new people. There are so many opportunities that present themself, which has been really beneficial, as well as great experiences.

And the biggest challenge?

Every day is different and each client patch is so unique, so navigating constantly between different tasks can keep me on my toes.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

Progressing from implementation to account management in the near future.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Following certain creators on social media. Whether it be for food inspiration, travel or everyday, I find that if you follow the right people it can be really motivating.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I took my job at KFC very seriously, I was selected to represent our store in KFC games, we were the best in Victoria and were flown to QLD to participate in their national games.

In five years' time I'll be:

Hopefully have set myself up in my career and working hard!
