Anthony Biewer.

In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Town Square's finished artist, Anthony Biewer.

Time in current role/time at the company:

4 years.

How long have you been in the industry?

5 years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I worked as much freelance as possible throughout university to build my portfolio and applied relentlessly for design roles, but as much of my work ended up being finished art, I also focused heavily on applying for roles in that area.

Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day?

Previously, I worked closely with my manager, the senior finished artist, acting as his right-hand person while he guided and taught me everything I know until he left. Since then, the Town Square accounts team have largely supported me day to day, ensuring I have the resources and time I need to do my job.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

You work with such a broad range of clients and types of projects that you’re constantly researching and picking up new tips and techniques, whether that’s fresh design ideas or new ways of using the Adobe suite.

And the biggest challenge?

I’d say the biggest challenge is shifting my mindset from client to client, making sure the work doesn’t all start to blend together while keeping track of each brand’s intricate details when producing work.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I think taking on a more creative role, such as an art director or general graphic designer, could be a nice change in the future, allowing me to focus less on the technical side and more on the creative aspects of the work.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Initial inspiration I’ll generally turn to sites like Pinterest to get a inkling of an idea but also social media helps a great deal when looking for inspo generally.

My favourite advert is (and why):

My favourite advert is more of a series of adverts that Tommy Lee Jones did back in 2006 for Boss coffee assumingly off the hype of Men in Black. I love it even though I don’t understand any Japanese, they make me laugh seeing Tommy Lee jones in such odd roles such as a teacher or a construction worker.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I have a massive Mecha robot figure collection Gundam, Transformer, Power Rangers and the like.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Hard to say either in a senior finished artist role or in a creative role such as a art director.
