Alycia Diggle

Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Alycia Diggle: Account manager at JCDecaux Australia.

Time in current role/time at the company:
Four roles in four years across two markets – Victoria and now WA.

How long have you been in the industry?
JCDecaux is my first role in the media industry so four years made up of a global pandemic and a casual six lockdowns.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
This was most definitely not the plan. Like lots of people in the media industry I fell into it. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science, realised that wasn’t for me so bought a round the world flight with no end date. Eventually I ran out of money so returned home and applied for a coordinator role at JCDecaux. Lucky for me, the Melbourne management team gave this broke, inexperienced kid a go and the rest is history.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
Maree Marasco (Group Business Director at JCDecaux in Victoria) has been a great source of inspiration for me. We don’t work directly together anymore but she has always encouraged me to be courageous, challenge the status quo and put client’s needs first.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The diversity of the job. I love that one day I could be working on a brief response, the next a strategy session with a client and then rounding out the week celebrating success with our agency partners. We get to help brands cement themselves in the real world and amplify their voices as a truly broadcast medium. I also love how collectively the industry joins forces to support some amazing causes and charities.

And the biggest challenge?
Am I allowed to say too much fun?

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
Our CEO Steve O'Connor

Where do you turn for inspiration?
I’m a sucker for a podcast. Some of my favourites are The Imperfects, Diary of a CEO and Seize the Yay. The one thing they all have in common is that no one’s journey is linear, so I’ve learnt to embrace the waves and enjoy the ride!

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
My poor team knows more about me than my family does. I do not shut up!

In five years' time I'll be:
Celebrating signing JCDecaux’s 10 year retainer with the Metaverse with a bottle of French champagne of course!
