Alex Eden-Lachowicz.
In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's JOLT's account manager Alex Eden-Lachowicz
Time at the company:
Eight months.
How long have you been in the industry?
Four years.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Definitely not – after completing a Health Sciences degree, I wasn’t too sure what was next, because going back to do more study didn’t appeal to me. My cousin sold me the dream of the media sales industry: lunches every Friday and going to live shows/sports events every other week. While there’s a whole lot more to the job than what he made it out to be at the time, we are very lucky to do the work we do while enjoying the fruits of the labour!
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
Without a doubt, my boss, JOLT Victorian Sales Director, Tim Debenham. I’m sure Tim’s sick of me sitting next to him with my millions of questions, but he has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the OOH field as well as the overall media landscape, so he’s been the perfect mentor to me and helped me settle into my role nicely.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
Working in fast-paced, constantly evolving environments, especially when I’m surrounded by talented, like-minded people. JOLT is a challenger brand in a highly competitive OOH space - being part of that has been really rewarding, because it’s not just about selling, it’s also educating the market. That’s something I genuinely enjoy, helping people understand the value and using that to drive sales.
And the biggest challenge?
Working in fast-paced, constantly evolving environments…
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully, leading a team – leadership is a real passion of mine, so I would love to be in a position that allows me to do that.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
My first boss in media at Paramount, Josh Hale, is definitely someone I look up to. The way he goes about his work and the leader that he has become is a testament to his character and hard work. Josh has gone from being my boss to a good friend and someone I turn to for inspiration within the industry.
My favourite advert is:
My all-time favourite would be the Carlton Draught “Big Ad”, or any of the Toyota Legendary Moments.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I have an uncanny knack for remembering random AFL players’ numbers.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
No one in particular, but I do have some lofty ambitions for where I want to be in the future, again, hopefully one day leading a sales team and continuing to do great things at JOLT!
