The Guardian has appointed Danika Johnston director of commercial partnerships for Australia and New Zealand.
She will oversee the sales, operations, branded content and insights teams, reporting to managing director Rebecca Costello.
Johnston was most recently the Australian managing director of the UK-founded social media platform WeAre8 which closed its local operations in March.
Prior to that, she held leadership roles at Nova Entertainment, Mamamia, SBS and TikTok.
Costello says Johnston’s appointment marks an “exciting next step” in the evolution of the company’s commercial strategy.
“Her depth of experience, innovative thinking and strong leadership credentials will be instrumental in driving revenue growth and strengthening our partnerships,” she said.
“Danika’s passion for purpose-led media aligns perfectly with our mission and values, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
Johnston said she feels “privileged” to be joining the team at the Guardian.
“This is a business that has always delivered performance and purpose in equal parts. Very few organisations can claim this credential,” she said.
“The Guardian brand and team has an incredible legacy of driving reputable content, storytelling and partnerships and I genuinely cannot wait to work alongside the teams to continue to scale this level of excellence”.
Johnston starts June 16.
