Omnicom media agency UM is searching for a new managing director to lead its Sydney office, reinstating a position it made redundant less than a year ago, AdNews can reveal.

The agency parted ways with Ben McCallum in April last year, at the time describing the move as a response to the changing needs of business and to position the agency for growth.

McCallum had led the Sydney office since early 2021, having joined from Mediacom, now EssenceMediacom, where he served as managing director for two years.

The decision to revive the role comes as UM adjusts to life inside the world's largest advertising holding company, following the completion of Omnicom's acquisition of IPG in November last year.

“UM has evolved over the past 12 months and is now part of the broader Omnicom Group, operating under new leadership,” a UM spokesperson told AdNews

“The appointment will add further leadership to the Sydney team and continue to raise the bar for both UM’s clients and its people.’

UM is seeking a leader focused on building a high-performance culture, driving innovative client work and raising the bar for its Sydney operation, which it regards as a key growth market.
