Young advertisers from Ogilvy, Grey and UM have won the Young Lions competition and will go on to represent Australia at Cannes Lions next month.

At an event held in Sydney, News Corp announced the winners of the Young Lions competition in four categories, including young marketer, cyber, print and media.

In the print category Grey copywriter Jenna Morrissey and graphic designer Rachel Harley took the top prize.

UM strategy executive Grace Espinoza and partnerships executive Charlotte Berry took the gong in the media category.

In cyber, Ogilvy's creative duo Alex Little and Karsten Jurkschat took the gong. The pair were AdNews' Young Guns earlier this year.

The Young Marketer award went to Universal Pictures' media and digital exec Nicola Godsafe and media and digital manager Diageo's Amanda Margariti.

The winners were determined by a panel of over 80 industry judges from 18 shortlisted teams after being given a 24-hour brief, emulating the international competition format in Cannes.

News Corp CMO Tony Phillips thanked the finalists for their professionalism and discipline, adding there was only a few points between the winners.

"There is nothing more important than ideas," Phillips says. "Things are changing rapidly in the agency world and being a client, there is nothing more important than agency ideas.

"If you look at what's just happening with The Monkeys [being bought by Accenture], that is one of those moments where we've reached a pivot point. That's challenging for us. Where we work, who we work for and where we go may change but the big ideas will stay the same."

Winners of the competition will now take part in the Global Young Lions competition during the annual creativity festival in France taking on their peers from across the globe.

They each receive return fights to Nice, accommodation and festival registration.

Runner-up teams in media, print and cyber categories will represent Australia at the Young Spikes Asia Competition and the young marketers category runner up will attend the Young Marketers Academy at the Spikes Asia Festival in Singapore this September.

The Cannes Lions Festival takes place from 17-24 June.

News Corp is a sponsor of Cannes Lions.
