Greg Wallace starts as executive director at Ad Standards, which oversees advertising industry self-regulation, from next month.

He replaces Richard Bean who stepped down last year after more than four years in the role.

Wallace most recently served as general manager of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation, leading initiatives focused on social impact and community empowerment.

"I'm passionate about the power of advertising to inform, inspire and connect, and equally committed to maintaining high industry standards that foster trust and accountability," Wallace said.

Chair Gillian Franklin said Wallace's expertise in marketing, governance and community engagement made him ideal for the role.

"He joins us at a time when the advertising landscape is rapidly evolving, regulatory complexity is growing, and public expectations are higher than ever," Franklin said.

Wallace is also a dedicated ultra-marathon runner and organiser of the Coast to Kosciuszko 240km race. He recently completed a 1400km run across Thailand to raise funds for Hands Across the Water.

Ad Standards, initially called the Advertising Standards Bureau, was setup by the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) in 1998.
