Twitch is to be be included in the federal government's social media ban for under 16s.

From 10 December, Twitch joins Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X and YouTube in the teen ban.

eSafety, the federal government’s independent online safety regulator, has informed the platform, popular with gamers, it is considered an age-restricted social media platform.

And it must now take reasonable steps to prevent under 16s from having accounts, in accordance with Australia’s Social Media Minimum Age legislation.

"Twitch is a platform most commonly used for live streaming or posting content that enables users, including Australian children, to interact with others in relation to the content posted," eSafety said.

eSafety has also informed Pinterest it does not consider it subject to age restriction.
