Thompson Spencer
Thompson Spencer has expanded its media team with three senior appointments from OMD, MBM and EssenceMediacom.
Jake Calder joins the Independent agency as media director / media futurist and will be based in Auckland.
Calder previously held roles at OMD and MBM, and has led performance and digital transformation for brands including Air New Zealand, Spark, The Warehouse Group and the New Zealand Government.
Madison Trevella, formerly of OMD and most recently strategy and client lead at Reason, has been appointed head of media.
Trevella will be based in Melbourne and tasked with aligning media strategy to performance outcomes.
Also joining the team is Auckland-based media planner Libby Frost, previously at EssenceMediacom.
She brings experience across media strategy, digital planning and campaign delivery in both agency and client-side roles.
Thompson Spencer Co-CEO Melanie Spencer said the hires support the agency’s continued growth and investment in media capability.
"We’ve seen phenomenal growth across the business over the past 12 months, from major new business wins to our merger with Reason and continued expansion into the Australian market," Spencer said.
"Building out our media team is the next step in that journey.
"Jake, Madison and Libby each bring fresh thinking and proven expertise to help us deliver even greater impact for our clients."
Calder, who chaired the IAB Programmatic Council in 2023 and the Emerging Tech Council in 2024, said he jumped at the opportunity to join Thomas Spencer.
"Thompson Spencer has long understood the value of media, and there’s a clear ambition to take it even further," he said.
"Clients are asking for smart, connected media that actually moves the needle and that’s exactly what we’re continuing to build."
The agency’s media team now comprises 12 staff across strategy, planning, media futurism and trans-Tasman operations, servicing clients in tourism, property, retail, finance, insurance, FMCG and e-commerce.
