The WFH Diaries - Stephanie Godfrey at Ad Colony

By AdNews | 2 June 2020

AdNews brings the stories of those working from home (WFH) in the advertising and media industry during the coronavirus crisis.

Stephanie Godfrey is sales manager at Ad Colony.

How are you dealing with the silence?
I'm lucky to enjoy the company of my partner as my new WFH colleague and between our many Zoom calls we put music on in the background. A couple times a week I'll jump on house party or video messenger to catch up with friends and family, I always feel better mentally after a few laughs with loved ones.

What’s the upside?
I have found a number of perks to working from home, tights and hoodies, no-makeup (assisted by Zooms touch up function) but my most favourite is the ability to prepare all my meals. I like to think of myself as a bit of a foodie so I've had the time and flexibility to shop, cook and test lots of new recipes, some of which have become staples.

The downside?
I miss yoga classes and gym, I'm getting a little tired of the lounge room workouts despite my best efforts to spice up the routine. The other thing for me is that my family and some of my best friends live interstate, we had alot of trips planned for the first half of the year that have fallen through. I'm looking forward to being able to visit everyone once borders open back up.

How are you using the commuting time saved?
I've been spending much more time outdoors, I'm very fortunate to live near the ocean (my happy place) so every day I take our sausage dog out for walks. I've learned how to ride a longboard and can now successfully skate around our suburb. More recently with the cold weather I've started gaming, my brother and I are in a Stardew Valley showdown on the Nintendo Switch and my mum continues to beat me at Words with Friends.

I am looking forward to being back in the office because…
I think it's nice to have a place to separate business from pleasure so that your home feels like a place of escape, continuously working from home can blurr those lines. I also miss meeting up with friends after work for a sneaky wine or long lunches with colleagues on a Friday.
