Laura Wall at home.

AdNews last year launched the WFH Diaries during the depths of the fallout from the pandemic, a way of sharing how people managed their days.

This time, with lockdown running again, we're asking for a run down on how everyone likes to start their day working from home. Some dress to impress, others slip on the t-shirt. And everyone has their own way to carve the day into manageable chunks.

Laura Wall, head of agency, Samsung Ads Australia:

My day usually starts around 6.30am when my 3 & 5 year old jump into bed with way too much energy. Once we are up. The hubby does the kid’s breakfast, gets our morning coffee and I have a quick look at my day ahead. No day is the same and I will admit it rarely goes to plan….

One thing that is consistent is getting exercise out of the way early, so I usually do this by 8am. It really does help set me up for the day.

I like to get as much of the homeschooling finished in the morning. Then I am straight into client meetings, presentations and right now planning & forecasting. All interrupted by little people demanding food, TV, cuddles and often taking over the screen.

I make sure I take a break at some point to take the kids on an “adventure”. This usually involves lots of walks in our local neighbourhood and beaches within 10km (written before NSW 5km update). Lately I have been letting my 5 year old pick my outfits – this often results in me being way too overdressed at home but is a bit of fun.

5-7pm I like to remove myself from work and spend time with the kids. I almost always pour a glass of wine at this time. Once they are settled I jump back on work. Repeat the next day!!

If you are WFH with kids, try to go with the flow and be as flexible as you can with time. Most importantly, always have wine in the house.

My kids are the biggest distraction for me. They seem to know the difference between “internal” and “external” meetings – and play up!!!

Downside. Not having much time away from the kids to miss them.

Upside. Seeing the kids learn new skills like reading or cartwheels and things I would usually miss in the office.
