AdNews brings the stories of those working from home (WFH) in the advertising and media industry during the coronavirus crisis.

Garry Dean is group manager, creative services CREATE (Nova Entertainment) based in the Perth office:

How are you dealing with the silence?

My three kids are here home-schooling ... so silence is not a problem for me. Plus I'm cranking Nova 93.7 (Perth) loudly of course.

What’s the upside?

Creativity thrives in solitude. Less workplace distraction means more time to think and solve problems. Copywriters can find the perfect word, without imperfectly timed phone calls bursting our thought bubbles. Producers can immerse themselves in sound design, uninterrupted by staff pop-ins. I've also enjoyed making some extra memories with my family.

The downside?

I miss the rapid-fire banter of the writer's room, and the random kitchen or hallway chat. And having the whole family stuck home round-the-clock is taking it's toll on the condition of our house!

How are you using the commuting time saved?

Starting work earlier to connect with the East Coast timezone. I can nail several briefs during the 10 hours a week I used to spend stuck in traffic!

I am looking forward to being back in the office because …

My absence from home will make my wife grow fonder of me again!
