The Marketing Academy has opened nominations for the fourth year of its Australian mentoring programme.

Founder Sherilyn Shackell says it’s each of the 30 spaces is “highly coveted” because it “gives aspiring marketing leaders the skills and knowledge to get to the top”.

The nine-month leadership programme is free to participate because it's funded by industry sponsors including Google, Commonwealth Bank, Microsoft, News Corp Australia and PwC. It’s supported by Mediacom, Seven West Media, Macquarie University and Clemenger BBDO.

It’s not easy to get a spot, as each of the graduate from the first three years of the programme will attest to, but many call it “life changing”. To even be able to apply, each person has to be nominated by someone else within the industry.

The nominations portal is open now and all applications must be in by 15 December.

Sherilyn Shackell, Founder of The Marketing Academy says: “I’m delighted to be opening nominations for our fourth year in Australia. The programme enables our Scholars to become the best versions of themselves in every context which in turn means that Australia’s brands and agencies can reap the benefits of nurturing these highly talented, committed and passionate leaders. We’ve opened the nominations earlier than previous years to give employers time to select the talent and nominees more time to prepare their applications.”

The 2018 Scholarship Programme includes;

  • One to one mentoring sessions with Australia’s most experienced leaders from the world of marketing and advertising.
  • Three immersive residential Boot Camps packed with inspirational speakers and masterclasses
  • 9 months of one to one coaching with an Executive Coach
  • 4 Scholarship Lectures, each hosted by recognised subject matter experts.

Chris Gross marketing director of Audible Japan and current Scholar says: “As dramatic as it sounds, it is a life changing program. Be ready to change as a human being, a leader, a marketer and a change maker - because that will happen. Without a doubt, this is the best education or self-improvement experience I've done, and the one I've had the most tangible results and improvements from. Don't let the cultish language of the Alumni scare you, it just really is that good and we all believe in it that much.”

Niki Allen, head of marketing for BT Investment Management, has also been through the programme. She says: “There are few experiences that provide a real opportunity for you to grow professionally. There are even fewer that have the ability to change your outlook on your profession, your career and your working relationships. And there are but a handful that have the potential to impact your core beliefs and who you fundamentally are. The Marketing Academy Scholarship Programme is such an experience. Run, don’t walk, to participate.”

It’s open to all marketers within brands and agencies with between 10 and 20 years experience. The deadline for applications is 15th December 2017.
