Cinemas recorded their biggest week of admissions in two years, with 2.025 million tickets sold from Thursday to Wednesday, according to Val Morgan Cinema.
The surge marks the strongest performance since the Barbenheimer phenomenon in July 2023, driven by a strong slate of releases.
James Gunn's Superman led the charge with 544,000 admissions in its first week, including the highest opening day since Deadpool & Wolverine in July last year.
"The quality, depth and consistency of content in cinemas right now is exceptional," said Val Morgan Cinema managing director Guy Burbidge.
Jurassic World: Rebirth maintained strong performance in its third week with 433,000 admissions, while How to Train Your Dragon took third place with 244,000 admissions.
The live-action instalment has become the highest-grossing entry in the franchise with more than $25 million at the Australian box office.
F1 The Movie contributed 212,000 admissions during the seven-day period, adding to the overall strength of the week.
"Cinema continues to attract key audiences through first-run content that combines emotion, scale, and the power of shared experiences—elements that consistently set the channel apart from other forms of entertainment," Burbidge said.
Major releases including Wicked: For Good, Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash are scheduled for release during the Christmas and summer period.
"The second half of the year is packed with bankable moments that will deliver for our core audiences," Burbidge said.
