Ten's reality dating show The Bachelor has drawn 1.17m metro viewers overnight, only falling slightly short of last year's finale by less than 50,000 viewers.

Following the shock ending to last season, when celebrity Bachelor Nick 'The Honey Badger' Cummins refused to choose a partner, Ten returned to tradition giving Astrophysicist Matt Agnew a shot at love.

This year's finale was only slightly down from the 2018 finale, which drew 1.2m metro viewers. The finale was also a bounce back from the series debut, which was down 100,000 viewers compared to the year prior.

Last night's episode saw Agnew pick 28-year-old chemical engineer Chelsie McLeod, in a finale that was split into two parts, The Final Decision and Grand Finale.

The Final Decision drew the 1.17m metro viewers, with a combined national audience of 1.52m, while the Grand Finale drew 936,000 metro viewers and a further 1.2m nationally.

Fans were shocked when it seemed like the fan favourite McLeod had not been selected to win, however editing later revealed Abbie Chatfield was the runner up, who stormed off the show following an angry rant.

Ten also had success in the evening slot following the finale of The Bachelor, with Gogglebox securing 759,000 metro viewers and a combined national viewership of just over one million.

The strong ratings cap off a solid week for Ten in primetime, which also saw strong ratings for its finale of Australian Survivor earlier in the week, which saw 1.04m metro viewers tune in for its Winner Announced segment and a further 923,000 for the Grand Finale.

In the main channel battle, the success of both The Bachelor and Gogglebox lead Ten to a main channel win for the night with a 22.3% audience share, Seven came in second with 17.7% and Nine third with 15.3%.

Ten also came close to winning the night overall as a network but fell short by 0.5% to Seven who had a 28% share, compared to Ten's 27.5%.

All eyes will now be on Ten's newest singing show, The Masked Singer, which has been highly publicised and marketed since its announcement earlier this year.
