ABC journalist Peter Ryan has died from metastatic thyroid cancer. He was 64.
He retired in June as the ABC’s senior business correspondent due to ill health after 45 years as a journalist. .
He leaves a wife, Mary Cotter, and daughter, Charlotte.
In 2022 he was recognised with the Order of Australia Medal for significant service to journalism. He was founding chairman of the Kennedy Foundation.
He began his career as a copyboy and cadet on Sydney’s Daily Mirror as an 18 year old. At the ABC, he’s been the Washington bureau chief, head of TV news and current affairs in Victoria, executive producer of Business Breakfast and founding editor of Lateline Business, which later became The Business, and Business.
