OMD Australia joint managing director Leigh Terry has been promoted to the role of CEO of Omnicom Media Group in Australia and New Zealand.

Terry, who has been with with OMD in Australia since 2005, will head all OMG assets in Australia and New Zealand, including agencies OMD and PHD. The promotion is effective immediately.

Terry was appointed joint MD of OMD Australia along with Peter Horgan following Mark Coad's move to CHE in October 2009. Asked if Horgan would remain at OMD as managing director, an OMD spokesperson said: "I’m afraid we have no comment on this at the moment. Details will be confirmed towards the end of this week."

Terry will continue to be based in Sydney and will report directly to OMG Asia Pacific chief executive Barry Cupples.

"The management teams of all OMG ANZ brands are leaders in their respective field and they are credited for building incredible operations," Terry said in a statement.

"This role is exciting as it involves working with people I know and respect immensely and I am confident of adding value to their efforts by ensuring we maximise the global resources of OMG in the region.”

Cupples described Terry as "one of the network’s brightest talents".

"He has triumphantly turned around every challenge we have ever given him, I welcome Leigh in his new role and wish him the very best,” Cupples said in a statement.
