Network Ten has revealed it will be bringing back the reality TV series, The Amazing Race, to be hosted by former NRL star Beau Ryan.

The series, which is currently in its eighteenth year on CBS in the US, will return to Australia after five years off the air. The show was previously broadcasted by Seven.

The show is a competition between teams of two in a race around the world, with 'the race' divided into a number of legs.

Teams travel and complete various tasks to obtain clues to help them progress to a 'Pit Stop' where teams rest and begin the next 12-hour leg.

The Amazing Race Australia comes to Ten later this year, with the network not revealing an exact launch date.

"We cannot wait to bring The Amazing Race back to Australian audiences. It is a perfect blend of action, drama and captivating characters," Ten chief content officer Beverley McGarvey says.

We look forward to rounding out our 50-week schedule with an epic and fun adventure series."

The show is produced by Eureka Television in partnership with Profiles Television in Burbank.

This marks one of the first major pieces of CBS television to be bought out to Australia as part of its ownership arrangement with Ten.

The Amazing Race first aired in the US in 2001 and has just been confirmed to return to CBS for a 32nd season in late 2019.

This is also the second major reality competition show to be revived by Ten this year, following the return of Dancing with the Stars in February.

"It’s one of the truly original and iconic shows of all time and it’s an honour and a privilege to be working with Network 10 in putting the Australian spin on such an incredible format," Eureka CEO Paul Franklin says.

"An international rollercoaster ride of a show with a big heart, this series will be one that the whole family can enjoy.”
