Sky News is rebranding its regional news channel to Sky News Regional, which will broadcast on the WIN Network and SCA.
The News Corp-owned business has extended its program supply agreement with WIN which will see Sky News Regional become available across WIN’s Channel 53 in Northern NSW and on Channel 83 in Griffith, NSW and South Australia from August 1.
The new regional channel will replace Sky News on WIN, which launched in 2018, which will cease to broadcast across WIN from July 31 except in the Northern NSW, Griffith and South Australian markets which will begin broadcasting the new Sky News Regional channel.
Since launching its dedicated commercial FTA news channel in 2018, Sky News says its news and national affairs programming has reached more than 5.5 million unique regional viewers.
As part of its renewed push into regional markets, Sky News has also signed a new multiyear FTA program supply agreement with SCA.
From August 1, Sky News Regional will also broadcast on Channel 56 in 17 of SCA’s regional markets across Victoria, Southern NSW and Queensland, including Cairns, Townsville, Canberra, and Ballarat.
Sky News Regional will feature news, weather, national affairs and sport from the Sky News Australia and FOX SPORTS News teams. It will include programs such as The Bolt Report, and Alan Jones.
“We have established a strong and dedicated free-to-air audience in regional Australia and we are pleased that, through this new multi-year agreement with Southern Cross Austereo, we can now provide viewers on the SCA network with the opportunity to discover Sky News content through a new dedicated channel, Sky News Regional,” says Sky News Australia CEO Paul Whittaker.
“As we celebrate 25 years of broadcast in Australia, we look forward to introducing new television audiences to our unrivalled news coverage, together with informed analysis and context from our leading journalists and commentators.”
