Sky News changes its name

Sky News has changed its name, with the 24-hour channel soon to be known as News24.

The new title finalises the network’s integration within News Corp Australia (NCA), following its acquisition of Australian News Channel (ANC) in 2016.

News24 (formerly Sky News) will focus on a digital-first drive, pandering to international audiences with the introduction of a new website, News24.com.au, and app, soon to follow the rebranding.

“The launch of News24 unlocks the opportunity to take our news, analysis, and opinion programming to larger audiences in more markets.” Said Paul Whittaker, chief executive officer of Sky News Australia.

News24 will soon be accessible across existing broadcast and streaming platforms, including Foxtel, BINGE, regional free-to-air television, FAST channels on connected TVs, podcasts, through Facebook and YouTube, and available as an audio stream on DAB+ radio in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

All Sky News' existing portfolio of brands will change to the News24 name in the upcoming months.

“While our name is changing, our brand of news isn’t,” said Whittaker.

Despite the name change, the channel will remain under the operation of Australian News Channel Pty Ltd (ANC), a subsidiary of Sky News News Corp.

The go-live-date of the name change has yet to be confirmed, but will be announced in the coming months.
