Seventh Radio Ratings: Talk radio keeps 2GB and 3AW on top

This second round of radio survey results since they resumed after a pause during the coronavirus crisis have been released.

They show 2GB in Sydney and 3AW in Melbourne continuing their run at the top of the ratings heap. 

Nine says the latest radio ratings highlight the strength of talk radio with 3AW, 2GB, 4BC and 6PR v recording stunning results.

The GfK Survey 7 saw Nine Radio’s talk stations retain their #1 position in the key 35-64 demographic with a 11.9% share (up 0.5 points). In all people 10+ Nine Radio’s talk stations grew 1.5 points to a 13.8% share.

“We made major changes across the Nine Radio network at the start of the year and the results are proving impressive,” says Greg Byrnes, Nine Radio’s head of content

“Melbourne has turned to 3AW en masse with all programs hitting unprecedented ratings figures, including a stunning 29.8% for Ross and Russ breakfast show. It’s 3AW’s best overall result in decades and shows Melbournians flocked to 3AW for trusted news and companionship in uncertain times.

“In Sydney Ben Fordham has maintained his dominance in the toughest slot in the country with a share of 16.1%, almost 6 points ahead of his nearest competitor. It’s 2GB’s 129th consecutive survey as number 1.

“The result in Brisbane has been stunning with our return to local content proving remarkable. The big gains in breakfast and Drive highlighting the huge efforts Neil Breen and Scott Emerson put over recent months.

“And Perth all key programs on 6PR have held the gains posted last survey or increased their audience figures.”

Ray Hadley in Brisbane is now number one overall in the 4BC Mornings timeslot recording 14.0% share up 2.7 points. This is the first time in 40 years that 4BC has a number one program.
