Seven West Media is “hugely energised about the enormous potential” of the merger with audio player SCA
CEO Jeff Howard told the network's upfront event in Sydney the possibilities of the deal were exciting.
“7plus and (digital audio app) LiSTNR working together to share a more compelling perspective on the audience,” he said.
“Building that digital audience through both content creation and cross promotion … will be able to extend our storytelling into new audiences, access points for us that could be podcasting on LiSTNR. For Southern Cross, that could be video."
A cashless, all share transaction combines two businesses with strong positions in the Australian advertising market across free-to-air television, streaming, audio, digital and publishing assets.
The merged group, expected to be made final early in 2026, would have combined revenue of $1.777 billion and a market capitalisation of $417 million.
“What we can do when I put our creative minds together will be really exciting as well," Howard told media buyers at the upfront.
“And news will be even more comprehensive, available everywhere. Our sport, even more insightful, powered by a true audio plus video opportunity and our ability to weave talent into storytelling across all our platforms will drive entertainment to a completely new level.
“Our intention is really simple, to build one of Australia's leading integrated media platforms, combining world class content creators with unmatched local and national audience reach and engagement, and in doing so, we will deliver you even more of what matters most. You guessed it, growth, partnership and performance that drives your results.
“There'll be much more to come in the months ahead.”
