The Seven Network is producing a special season of Big Brother which will feature Australian celebrities as housemates.

Big Brother VIP will debut later this year with host Sonia Kruger and some of the nation’s “best-known” celebrities locked in the Big Brother house.

“We can’t wait for Australia to meet this year’s amazing collection of housemates and to start discovering the many surprises and twists we have built into the show,” says Seven Network programming director Angus Ross.

“With anticipation for the new season building, the time is right to commission Big Brother VIP. The celebrity format is a proven success around the world.

“It was a hit here in Australia almost two decades ago and we’re looking forward to introducing a whole new generation of celebrities to Big Brother. Let the game begin.”

The season is being produced by Endemol Shine Australia and comes after Seven revived the reality TV show last year after five years off-air.

The last season wrapped up with 769,000 metro viewers last year, according to OzTam figures.
