What happens when pure-play digital advertising agency powerhouse S4 Capital loses its founder, Sir Martin Sorrell?

According to the company’s latest annual report, this is a situation the company is working on.

S4 Capital recently revealed Sorrell was recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with cancer.

Sir Martin, in a note to staff, says he is continuing to work but will reduce travel after successful keyhole surgery in February to remove a tumour.

In the 2022 annual report released at the weekend, the company says: “The market views the group’s success as intrinsically linked with the executive chairman, Sir Martin Sorrell.

“Should he not be a part of the group without an effective succession plan, it could have a significant impact on the share price and market view of the group.

“Adverse media reports on Sir Martin Sorrell could therefore have a disproportionate impact on the group.

“The group is working on a succession plan for Sir Martin Sorrell.”

S4 Capital posted revenue of £1.07 billion, a rise of 24% on a like-for-like basis, for the year to December.
