Nine Entertainment is reportedly in advanced negotiations to extend its English Premier League broadcast rights in a six-year deal.

The Australian Financial Review says the agreement would be worth almost $US600 million ($860 million).

Nine, through its streaming platform Stan, secured the soccer broadcast rights last year from Optus Sport for an upfront fee of $20 million and a contribution towards the first payment for the next Premier League rights cycle.

The assets include media rights agreements for the Premier League and the Emirates FA Cup, both through to the 2027/2028 seasons.

Nine CEO Matt Stanton then described the deal as a step change in Nine’s digital growth strategy.

The latest negotiations for soccer come on the back of Nine’s deal with the NRL for another seven years of broadcast rights.
