DDB Group Australia has folded its communications department, resulting in two redundancies, AdNews reveals.

The function will now be handled by DDB's PR and corporate communications business Mango.

Andrew Little, president and CEO of DDB Group ANZ, confirmed the news to AdNews.

A source at another agency told AdNews "lots of jobs are on the line at DDB".

However, Little says the redundancies do not mean DDB is restructuring.

The two lost jobs include popular former trade journalist Brittney Rigby as head of communications and Natalie Gornell, communications manager.

Rigby worked at the agency for almost three years. This was Gornell's first job in Australia after moving from England 10 months ago.

This news follows a string of reported redundancies and quiet restructuring across the media and advertising landscape in Australia.

These include around 40 redundancies at dentsu, according to insiders.

Globally media plays are keeping costs tight as brands pull back ad spend in the face of an uncertain economic climate.

Pure-play digital advertising group Martin Sorrell's S4 Capital, more used to reporting strong growth, last month told the market its headcount was down 500.
