Reddit has gone to the High Court to challenge the under-16s social media ban in Australia.
The company said the new law had the unfortunate effect of forcing “intrusive and potentially insecure verification processes” as well as isolating teens from the ability to engage in age-appropriate community experiences.
"We believe there are more effective ways for the Australian government to accomplish our shared goal of protecting youth,” the social media platform said.
Reddit also argues that it doesn't have the social media features the government has taken issue with.
The world-first action by the federal government started this week.
The platforms subject to the ban include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X, YouTube, Kick and Reddit.
