Red Bull launches Bedroom Jam in Australia

Red Bull has launched Red Bull Bedroom Jam in Australia, a digital-based music competition giving young unsigned bands the opportunity to get their music heard on a global scale.

The initiative, which originated in the UK three years ago, is being led by branded entertainment agency mixitup, in conjunction with media agency MEC, and creative agency Kastner & Partners. Weber Shandwick is to handle social media strategy.

Red Bull Bedroom Jam allows young bands to upload original music videos to a dedicated site  to be watched by audiences who can determine the popularity of the music via a “Buzz Chart” embedded in the site.

The custom built technology ranks the top ten bands in real time based on their online activity across the Red Bull Bedroom Jam site, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.

The bands that generate the most "buzz" will get the chance to stream a live performance from their bedroom to the world, play in their own backyard with a headline Australian band and record in the Red Bull studios in Los Angeles. Any Australian band can enter as long as all members are between 14-19 years old.

“This program is the perfect platform for any aspiring young band to get a foot on the music industry ladder and build a real fan base from their own bedroom," said Red Bull Australia culture marketing manager Tom Sigelski.
