Twitter Australia says its social media platform is being used to complement TV viewing, especially around reality shows.

Since the start of the year, there have been more than 12,000 tweets focused on reality TV in an average week.

With prominent shows such as, Married at First Sight, MasterChef Australia, Survivor Australia, The Bachelor, and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here accounting for 67% of the reality TV conversations on Twitter Australia, 81% of these conversations take place between Monday, Tuesday and Friday after 6pm when these shows are generally aired.

Angus Keene, managing director at Twitter Australia, said: “People turn to Twitter as a second screen to supplement their TV viewing experience, whether it’s getting pumped for an upcoming season of TV series or watching sneak peeks before the next episode airs.

“For binge watchers, and reality TV enthusiasts, Twitter has become a virtual lounge room.

“We’re seeing more and more brands wanting to reach these fans in a premium and brand safe way. That’s why advertisers are using Twitter to launch their campaigns and connect with their audiences around the big TV moments and conversations.”
