Triton Digital’s Podcast Ranker for May 2023 has been released, with Hamish & Andy regaining the top spot in both the Top 100 Ranker and Top 100 All-Australian Ranker for the first time since the start of the year.

After being knocked off the top spot in April by Casefile True Crime, the comedy duo came in at number one for last month, totalling 1,091,847 monthly listeners and over 2.6 million monthly downloads.

Although it fell to second, Casefile True Crime still racked up 1,005,268 monthly listeners and beat out all other podcasts with over 2.9 million monthly downloads.

Mamamia Out Loud rose to third with 633,375 monthly listeners, Shameless dropped to fourth with 582,563 monthly listeners and The Imperfects remained in fifth with 522,854 monthly listeners.

Bloke In A Bar, which debuted back in March, snuck into the top 10, rising two spots from April to total 326,675 monthly listeners.

ARN/iHeartMedia, LiSTNR (SCA) and Audioboom remained at first, second and third in the Top Publishers rankings, with. ARN/iHeartMedia totalling close to 22 million monthly downloads, nearly double the amount of the next nearest publisher.

SCA executive head of LiSTNR podcasts, Grant Tothill, said there is no doubt podcast listening is gaining further ground in Australia and LiSTNR’s ability to provide a created and curated premium slate of local and international podcasts gives listeners a fantastic depth of choice.

"As one of the few companies in Australia focused on creating original podcasts, this is an outstanding achievement for LiSTNR, eclipsing our best ever previous month as a publisher of original podcasts to achieve 4 million listeners, and setting a new audience benchmark as a podcast network of 8.6 million monthly listeners,” said Tothill.

ARN’s head of digital audio, Corey Layton, said the engagement that iHeartPodcast Network’s slate continues to deliver is astonishing.

"With six shows delivering over 1 million downloads, we continue to provide listeners and advertisers with more podcast hits than anyone else," said Layton.

“There are a lot of people who continue to work tirelessly right across our business to keep our forward momentum. Along with our talented creators and partners, they are the ones responsible for this brilliant result.”

The Ranker provides insight into the Top 100 Podcasts as well as the Top 10 Publishers in Australia from 1 May through 31 May 2023, as measured by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.
