Triton Digital’s Podcast Ranker for December 2022 has been released, with Casefile True Crime regaining the number one spot in both the Top 100 Ranker and Top 100 All-Australian Ranker.

Hamish & Andy took back the top spot in November after Casefile True Crime ended their seven-month reign atop the Ranker in October, but 727,333 monthly listeners and over 2 million monthly downloads helped the Audioboom podcast to win the month to end the year.

In second place, Mamamia Out Loud – which only debuted in November – rose a spot over the month prior thanks to 533,189 monthly listeners.

Hamish & Andy fell to third place with 526,998 monthly listeners, while Life Uncut remained at fourth place; Schwartz Media’s 7am rose a spot to fifth.

ARN/iHeartMedia and LiSTNR (SCA) remained at first and second in the Top Publishers rankings, but Audioboom was displaced in third place by Stitcher. ARN/iHeartMedia led the pack with over 16 million monthly downloads, over double the amount of the next nearest publisher.

ARN's head of digital audio, Corey Layton, said: “This was an incredible result for the iHeartPodcast Network and sets the stage for what’s to come. We have some incredible and innovative shows underway, set to gain audience and advertiser interest across 2023 and beyond.”

SCA executive head LiSTNR podcasts, Grant Tothill, said: “After finishing 2022 as Australia’s number one podcast network, we are looking to drive stronger growth in 2023.

"We have more partnerships, new titles that will join LiSTNR podcasts, along with some exciting new podcasts currently in production and slated for release later this year. As always, our teams remain focused on creating and growing premium podcasts to engage with the growing podcast audiences in Australia and offering advertisers more and more opportunities to talk to them."

The Ranker provides insight into the Top 100 Podcasts as well as the Top 10 Publishers in Australia from 1 December through 31 December, 2022, as measured by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.
