Triton Digital’s Podcast Ranker for April 2023 has been released, with Casefile True Crime regaining the top spot in both the Top 100 Ranker and Top 100 All-Australian Ranker for the first time since the start of the year.

The true crime podcast started January on top, before dropping to second in both February and March - 962,509 monthly listeners and over 2.6 million monthly downloads, totals both higher than any other podcast in April, helped propel Casefile True Crime back to number one. Hamish & Andy, the former leader atop the rankings, racked up 898,517 monthly listeners last month.

Shameless rose two spots to third with 569,428 monthly listeners, Mamamia Out Loud remained in fourth with 554,434 monthly listeners and The Imperfects closed out the top five with 491,339 monthly listeners.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show continued its drop since topping the Podcast Ranker in February, falling to sixth place with 454,930 monthly listeners.

ARN/iHeartMedia and LiSTNR (SCA) remained at first and second in the Top Publishers rankings, with Audioboom coming in at third. ARN/iHeartMedia led the pack with over 20 million monthly downloads, double the amount of the next nearest publisher.

ARN’s head of digital audio, Corey Layton, said after 36 consecutive rankers at #1, the engagement of its podcast network continues to thrive with more podcast hits over 1m+ monthly downloads than any other publisher.

"There is so much yet to come for the network in 2023 and beyond, boosted by the news of Jay Shetty and Dylan Buckley’s Producey joining the network," said Layton.

Grant Tothill, SCA executive head LiSTNR podcasts, said today is another strong result for all of the teams that continue to work with SCA's highly talented creators.

"Whether they be new or existing, radio or original podcasts, right across the business everyone has contributed as LiSTNR continues to be the number one podcast network, offering advertisers more ways to reach the ever-expanding podcast audience in Australia,” said Tothill.

The Ranker provides insight into the Top 100 Podcasts as well as the Top 10 Publishers in Australia from 1 April through 30 April 2023, as measured by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.
