AdNews is following the WFH Diaries with a series of Perspectives, asking two questions: What did you learn in 2021 and what are you looking forward to in 2022? We've also encouraged the industry to glam, dress for the best, and face next year with optimism.

Kiranpreet Kaur - Head of Client & Strategic Services - Archibald Williams:

2021

Empathy. Lockdowns a second year in a row were testing, and let’s face it, many of us suffered, and many of us were digging deep for those last bits of patience, whether that was with our kids, our projects or the neighbour’s cat – it was groundhog day, albeit a much less enjoyable version than Bill Murray’s.

Being able to maintain some sort of personal fortitude, while still demonstrating empathy, proved to be a real challenge this year. Nonetheless, I believe and I hope I was able to do it because I still maintain that along with respect and transparency, empathy is one of the greatest ingredients of effective leadership.

Fear and doubt during unfamiliar times (lockdowns, pandemics, whatever it is) should not guide decisions (interesting coming from a relatively risk-averse person). You’ll stand up and stand out by being able to move forward and inspire through it all – even more so through the tough times.

2022

Covering decent annual leave time for our team members. I’m not even joking. I know it’ll be painful in moments with client deadlines and projects all exploding RIGHT when someone is away on leave, but I can’t help but want to repay my gratitude for the incredible work our team did over this past year.

And feeling, firsthand, how hard it has been to not be able to travel (to see loved ones, and otherwise), I can’t wait to see everyone do that and see the rejuvenated versions of them when they come back.
