Ogilvy executive Sam Tatam dies

Ogilvy's global principal of behavioural science Sam Tatam has died after a battle with cancer. He was 39.

He began at Ogilvy in December 2011 as a brand strategist and is the author of the book Evolutionary Ideas. 

"Sam was truly exceptional – a rare blend of sharp intellect, genuine humility, and a quick, often mischievous, humour," Ogilvy said. 

"He was a fount of groundbreaking ideas and left an indelible mark on the advertising industry and on every one of us fortunate enough to have known him.

"Beyond his professional brilliance, Sam was deeply devoted to his family. To his beloved wife and two young daughters, Mila and Riley, we extend our deepest love and unwavering support.

"We hope they find solace in the vast positive impact Sam had on so many lives."

Former Ogilvy Australia CEO David Fox said Sam was a rare breed: humble, razor-sharp, with a cheeky sense of humour and an endless supply of big ideas.

"A devoted family man at heart, he made a mark on the ad industry and on all of us who were lucky enough to know him," Fox said.

"His vision and creativity shaped something truly special that will live on well beyond his years.

"His role in helping reshape Ogilvy Australia at a pivotal moment showed that real leadership doesn’t always need the biggest title in the room, it just needs focus, teamwork and a will to win.

"Thank you Sam, for the ideas, the laughter, and the kindness. You will be greatly missed in a world that needs many many more people like Sam Tatam."

One week ago, Tatam took to LinkedIn to ask friends and colleagues to record stories on their experiences with him to provide to his two daughters, Mila and Riley.
