Nine Entertainment has started a new round of job cuts.
AdNews understands an estimated thirty roles, specific to publishing, will be made redundant. The cuts will affect print operations, excluding the Australian Financial Review, and will be a mix of voluntary and targeted.
In an internal email seen by AdNews, Nine's staff received notice of the impending redundancies.
"The best way to protect our quality journalism is to ensure our organisation adapts to a changing media landscape, that we’re growing commercially and investing in new areas which connect with new audiences," the email read.
"In particular we need to keep shifting towards the digital- first future.
"We are going to be making some changes to our structure and how we operate."
The email invited Nine's staff to a town hall meeting to discuss the details and what it means for those effected.
"I want to reassure you that we are committed to being transparent and supportive throughout this process, including engaging the (journalists' union) MEAA," the email read.
"Your leaders and I will continue to keep the whole Publishing division updated through this process as much as we’re able."
The announcement follows a weak June advertising market, impacted by a “confluence of uncertainty” - both international and local.
“While the broader advertising market faces a ‘short’ and uncertain Q4, core operational performance remains resilient," the company told the Macquarie Australia Conference in May.
