The Nine Network has kicked off the official ratings year with a slim win, but My Kitchen Rules still ruled the roost on a night characterised by competing specials on the Martin Place siege and new program launches.

Nine took home a 33.3% stake against Seven's 32.9%, and also won the main channel title with a 27.5% audience against 26.9%.

The main pitched battles for the night were Seven and Nine's competing Martin Place siege specials. Nine took home the win with its special bringing in 1.28 million viewers against Seven's 1.13 million.

Meanwhile competing on Ten was I'm a Celebrity, which featured a live eviction. The program attracted 616,000 sets of eyeballs and the eviction brought in 744,000 for the network, according to the overnight metro figures from OzTAM.

Seven's Martin Place siege special wrapped up at 8pm, which meant that its flagship program, My Kitchen Rules, went up against Ten's premiere of Shark Tank.

Nine's Martin Place special ran until 8:45pm, after which it aired the first part of a mini-series focusing on the Hancock dynasty.

My Kitchen Rules took home the most-watched program of the night, with 1.68 million tuning in, while Nine's House of Hancock grabbed an audience of 1.38 million.

Shark Tank debuted with an audience of 616,000.

Network Ten took home a 14.5% share, narrowly beating out the ABC with a 14.4% audience.

Tonight, the three main commercial networks will resume hostilities in the reality format wars with MKR, The Block, and I'm a Celebrity all going head to head in the 7.30pm timeslot.

Nine will premiere its Gallipoli mini-series at 9pm with Seven putting up movie Pitch Perfect and Ten putting up Law and Order: SVU against it.
