Airbnb CMO Jonathan Mildenhall is stepping down

After three years as the chief marketing officer of Airbnb, Jonathan Mildenhall is stepping down to start his own marketing consulting firm. In the coming months, Mildenhall will continue to work as a consultant for the brand. He will also help on-board Wieden + Kennedy, the agency selected to handle Airbnb’s global creative account. Mildenhall joined the company in 2014 from Coca-Cola. Under his reign as CMO, Mildenhall shepherded some major campaigns for the brand including the “Don’t Go There. Live There” campaign. Additionally, the brand ran its first Super Bowl spot, “Accept,” touting diversity and acceptance. His last day will be Oct. 20.

Hungry Jack’s backs basketball

Hungry Jack’s is back on board as the naming rights partner of the National Basketball League thirty years after it first signed. It includes branding across NBL players’ jerseys, on-site branding and signage, an exclusive Hungry Jack’s Heritage Month in January and integrated advertising opportunities throughout the season. The brand says the deal “underlines Hungry Jack’s position as a major player in Australian sport sponsorship and reinforces its continued efforts to be a leader in innovation”. More than a million basketball fans will attend 112 games and finals this season, and games will air on Fox Sports. The deal kicks off tonight for the 2017-18 season when the Adelaide 36ers play Melbourne United at Titanium Security Arena.

Dentsu retains Australian Paper account

Australian Paper has re-appointed Dentsu Mitchell to its communications planning account following a competitive pitch process. Dentsu Mitchell has worked with the brand since 1995 and will lead the relaunch of its Reflex product.

Creative agency launches beer for equality

Brisbane-based creative agency Brother & Co has offered its services to The Good Beer Co., Australia’s social enterprise beer company, to help create and launch a new beer in support of marriage equality. Inspired by the ‘Love is Love’ mantra, the new ale, is simply called Love². Founder of The Good Beer Co., James Grugeon, said Love² was created to show their support for YES and solidarity for their mates in the LGBTI community across Australia. All profits from the Love² will be donated to the Australian Marriage Equality campaign.
