Network Ten brings forward programming launch

SYDNEY: Network Ten, which airs MasterChef and Glee, has pulled forward the launch of its 2011 programme line-up buoyed by confidence about its upcoming slate of shows.

Ten will stage its 2011 programming launch on September 15, six weeks earlier than last year's event and more than a month before rivals Seven and Nine networks present their line-ups to the markets.

Invitations to the launch were sent this week ahead of the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October and a raft of returning series including: MasterChef, Bondi Vet, Glee and Talkin' Bout Your Generation.

However, the earlier date does not mean Ten is aiming to also bring forward the annual “upfront” negotiations with media agencies over advertising rates, which traditionally start in October and determine around 70% of TV spending in the year.

Ten chief executive Grant Blackley told AdNews: “The Commonwealth Games will be a major spectacular for free-to-air. I think we can excite the market again, we have the credibility and progammes to do it.”
